What Is A Person?

Summer 2016 quarter (Session I)

Taught by

philosophy

Each of us experiences the world from a different, subjective, point of view. What is this subject , this self , this I that has these experiences? What (if anything) makes a person the same person over time, even through a myriad of changes? How are we to understand our nature, in the face of modern developments both in neuroscience and in psychology? We will study historical and contemporary philosophical theories of what it is to be a person, with particular attention to their relations to psychology.
