Program Covenant

The Vanishing Father

Fall, 1996

EXPECTATIONS:

1. Attendance, on time, at all program activities.

2. For each of the various program segments: Reading of all assigned books and other materials. Informed participation in class discussion. Full participation in any group exercises or projects. Completion, on time, of all assigned written and project work.

3. One only learns by doing one's work. Furthermore, submitting work that bears one's name makes the claim that the work is one's own. Plagiarism, that is, passing off as one's own something that was actually written or otherwise prepared by someone else, is an affront to one's peers and faculty. Students should be mindful that any acts of plagiarism discovered by faculty will be treated with the seriousness that such an infraction deserves. The penalty for plagiarism is explosion from the program and possible explosion from the College.

4. Each student must meet individually with seminar leader, Chuck Nisbet at the end of the quarter for an evaluation conference students must bring to the conference a self-evaluation on the official college form and an evaluation of faculty member Chuck Nisbet.

5. While formal evaluation takes place during evaluation week, it is the responsibility of both students and faculty member Chuck Nisbet to bring to one another's attention throughout the quarter any ways in which performance can be improved. The evaluation conference, therefore, should not be an occasion for surprises.

6. The material covered this quarter will likely be controversial. Many may hold strong views on what we read. We must agree to be sensitive to others in our group and converse in a civil manner conduce to increased understanding of the material and differing points of views. Our primary responsibility is not to justify or explore our personal situation but garner a fuller appreciation for broad based changes in society as a whole.

7. Students can expect to receive timely and useful feedback on their work from faculty member Chuck Nisbet.

CREDIT POLICY:

Students will receive full academic credit of sixteen quarter hours based upon satisfactory and on-time completion of all program requirements and assignments. Failing to complete assignments, failure to attend all program activities, and/ or plagiarism constitutes grounds for denial of some or all credit. To receive full credit, a student will be required to:

Regularly attend all scheduled program activities (lectures, seminars, workshops,, films, and presentations). If for some reason a student cannot attend any session, she/he should contact Chuck Nisbet, phone 866-6000 x-6593, in advance.

I HAVE READ THE PROGRAM COVENANT AND I UNDERSTAND THAT RECEIVING CREDIT IS CONTINGENT UPON MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS SPECIFIED.
