Chemistry in Everyday Life

Laboratory:  Isotopes of Pennium

Sampling:   Take a handful (12 - 15) pennies.  Make sure you have a wide range of years and condition (some old and tarnished, some new and shiny).  Weigh each penny separated and record the weight.  Are any pennies significantly different than others.  What do the lighter pennies have in common?  Why are these pennies lighter?  How many pennies are in each group?

Testing:   Weigh the empty film canister.  Bring it to me and I will fill it with pennies.   Your job is to figure out how many pennies are in the canister without opening it.  Open the canister and see if you are correct.
