Foolish
By Dylan Ksa

you know how it is
when you barely like a girl
and she barely likes you
and you finally get up the nerve
to kiss her
like she’s been hinting at for days,
weeks
and she kisses you back
good
and you think, “tastes good”
and the two of you nibble
at each other
like you’re sharing the ripest peach

and then she leaves

and you wait

and…
when you see her
it’s as if nothing has happened
and…
when you call
she makes plans,
changes plans,
breaks plans,
stops calling

And you think.

wait a minute, we really don’t even know
one thing
about each other
we were fooling
cheating
with a kiss
that carried the weight
of centuries,
maybe millennia
old as time

easy does it.
