"Experience Japan" Summer, 08
Application Procedures

 

*Please follow the procedures in the order listed below. All the necessary forms are available below as linked documents.

I.  First, you have to have (1) a valid passport and (2) a health insurance which will cover your illness and accidents while you are in Japan. Please refer to the "Study Abroad Handbook" at the International Advisor's office in the Academic Advising. (Note that obtaining passport usually takes 2 months. You can expedite the process by paying extra $40~50.)

II.  Read the Syllabus and determine if you are ready for the program and which location you want to choose, Toyooka Program or Tokyo Program.

III.  Register for 8 credits for the first half of the summer quarter.
You need to fill out the (3) Travel Waiver form to register for the program.
Waiver Form is available at the International Advisor's office.
Please make an appointment to see the International Advisor, Michael Clifthorne, to discuss your concerns and readiness for the program. If you have some medical concerns or taking some medications, make sure to bring it up with Michael.

IV.  Plane Reservation
Make a plane reservation at Sankei Travel of Americas in Seattle (206-728-7130). Ask for Ms. Suzuki and mention her the Program Sponsor's name (prof. Tsutsumi). Make a reservation so that you can be either at Narita by 3:00pm on June 22, for Tokyo program, or at Kansai International Airport by 4:30 pm on July 2nd, for Toyooka program.  You have 2 weeks to pay the full airfare after making the reservations.

V.  Fill out the following forms and turn them in to the program secretaries in Lab 2.

VI. Write the following papers and send them digitally via e-mail both to the addresses below and to the program secretary <joynesr@evergreen.edu>

6.  Self-Introduction letter to your possible host families. Include your picture digitally in your letter. Specify your food and smoking preferences. At the top of the page, State clearly that you are applying for the Toyooka Program.

7.  Individual project Proposal (Applicants for Tokyo Program only)
    Describe what you want to explore or examine while you are in Tokyo in approximately one page. You may have some Japanese college students helping your project (but this has to be determined later.)

VII.  Read the following documents carefully, sign, and turn them in to the program secretaries in Lab 2.
