BOOKBINDING DIRECTIONS

.Cut two pieces of cardboard each 6 1/4" x 9 1/2".Tape cardboard together (along 9 1/2" sides) leaving 1/8th to 1/4" space in the center between the two sides.(The amount of space you leave depends on the thickness of the cardboard and the number of pages going in the book. You might need to leave more than 1/4" for thick cardboard.)

.You will need two pieces of paper, fabric, or contact paper to cover the cardboard. These cover pieces should EACH be 7"x11".(If your original cardboard pieces are larger or smaller than the pieces in Step 1, adjust the size of the cover pieces accordingly.)

.Open the cardboard pieces, tape side down.Glue the cover pieces to the cardboard. The covers should touch the edge of cardboard in the center.Leave equal overhang at the top and bottom of the cardboard.Fold overhang and glue onto cardboard.(Do the corners first, and then the sides.)

.Fold pieces of xerox paper to form 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangles.(This size sheet will fit the cardboard size in Step 1.If you want a larger or smaller book, adjust the size of the pages.)Fold each piece one at a time making sure to create a sharp crease at the fold - using a ruler can be helpful.Put the pieces of paper together, one inside the other.(Example: 5 pieces of paper will give you ten pages for your book.)

.Now fold a piece of construction paper into a 6"x9" rectangle.Put the folded xerox sheets inside the folded piece of construction paper.(Again, if you want a larger or smaller book, adjust the size of the construction paper rectangle.)

.Open your booklet flat.Mark the midpoint on the fold of the construction paper.Make two marks 1" from the ends of the inner paper (one top and one bottom). Then make a mark halfway between each end mark and the midpoint.Poke holes with a needle through all thicknesses at the marks.

.Thread a needle with dental floss (about 20" long).Beginning at the back of the construction paper at the center hole, follow the pattern below, leaving 2" to tie off at the end.

.Open the covers and glue the construction paper to the front and back covers.Put another piece of tape on the outside spine.
