Spring 2004 Field Observation
Student and Cooperating Teacher Expectations

Beginning Date: Thursday April 1, 2004
Ending Date: Thursday June 3, 2004

TIMELINE

WEEK ONE: Thursday April 1

1) Half day, morning only.
2) Observe only if this is a new placement, if it's your old placement, start taking on responsibilities.
WEEK TWO: Thursday April 8 1) Half day, morning only.
2) Help with students as classroom teacher deems appropriate., such as: a) small groups
b) reading to/with class/student(s)
c) answer student questions
d) individual tutoring
WEEK THREE: Thursday April 15 1) Half day, morning only.
2) Same as April 8 (see above) plus small pre-assessment in preparation for following weeks of "teaching"
WEEK FOUR: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday  April 20, 21, 22, 23 1) Half days, mornings only.
2) Teach either small group or whole class, at least 30 minutes each day.
3) Develop one concept throughout the three days. a) Concept should be developed to connect lessons with one
another and compliment what is already happening in class while being separate (i.e.; MIT student develops lesson -- they do not teach the classroom teacher's lesson or a lesson from the curriculum book).
b) All three days of lessons must connect with one another.
c) On the third morning (April 23) include *post-assessments as well as the lesson for that day.

*1) MIT student assesses what the classroom students have
learned during the three days.

*2) You will provide your classroom teacher  a rubric to assess your teaching and you will self assess using the same rubric.

d) The MIT student will bring the assessment back to their MIT faculty.
 

* Note:  If you cannot teach in week 4 then you should be observing on one day and working on research the other 2 days.
WEEKS FIVE, SIX, and SEVEN: Thursday April 29, May 6, May 13 1) Half days, mornings only.
2) Help with students in class as classroom teacher deems appropriate.
3) May 13, pre-assess for next week's teaching.
WEEK EIGHT: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, May 18, 19, 20 Repeat "Week Four", but with a new series of lessons and post assessments. WEEKS NINE AND TEN :  Thursday May 27, Thursday June 3
1) Half day, morning only.
2) Help with students as classroom teacher deems appropriate., such as:
a) small groups
b) reading to/with class/student(s)
c) answer student questions
d) individual tutoring
