New Student Policy for Winter Quarter

 

We will accept a few new students into "Contemporary Social Issues" for winter quarter provided they meet our expectations and requirements.

  1. Expectations:
    1. Some background in sociology or political economy
    2. Strong, reliable skills in reading and writing critically
  1. Requirements:
    1. Before Jan. 3, 2005, read:

á      Derek Bell, Silent Covenants 

á      Snow and Anderson, Down on Their Luck

á      Richard Rothstein, "Must Schools Fail?," New York Review of Books, December 2, 2004, pp. 29 – 37.  [on-line version of this article]

    1. Obtain a signature from one of us.  Send an email requesting a conference as soon as you can.
