"A generation ago, three-quarters of the money used to buy food in the United States was spent to prepare meals at home. Today about half of the money used to buy food is spent at restaurants - mainly at fast food restaurants." - Fast Food Nation (Eric Schlosser)

The question you should ask yourself when eating is "Where does my food come from?" If you buy locally or from a Co-Op or Farmers Market you will know that most of it is coming from a local resources. The next time you are in a Super Market ask the manager if they buy from local farmers for fresh produce? If not where is the food coming from? These are important to know because today in the age of modern civilization we have lost track of where are "food shed" comes is stocked from.

"I've often read (and even cited) the 1983 statistic that the average good item in the United States travels 1,300 miles before it reaches the dinner table." - The New Agrarianism Land, Culture, and Community of Life (Eric T. Freyfogle)
