Framing Film

SIFF Essay

Synthesis Paper beginnings.

This workshop is designed to help you think through the films you saw at SIFF, and to begin to put them into the context of the program.  If you take the exercise seriously, it will give you a jump start on writing your synthesis paper.  Assuming that you don’t waste time finding someone to talk with, this should take you about 2 hours.

  1. List the films you saw at SIFF.
  1. Now just free-write on 3 or 4 films from SIFF that you might want to write more about.  Write whatever comes to you, as a way to get something down on paper.   Use your notes/film journal for ideas.
  1. After you’ve done some writing, find a classmate and discuss the films you saw, and the ways they might fit into the program themes and topics.
  1. Begin work on your Synthesis Paper—the paper should be about 5 pages.  Bring a polished draft to the Read-Around on Wednesday, June 1.
