Student Governance Notes October 24, 2005

Nathaniel was the facilitator, Lizzie stacked, Rachel was the scribe, Lorna took notes, and Taj was appointed faculty liaison after the meeting was over by the other members of the facilitation team.

Blurts included:

  • Cheryl’s seminar need to bring drawing utensils.

  • Attendance should be addressed as an issue.
  • We decided:

  • Taj is “the potluck committee”. The timeline for Thursday will be 10am to 12pm, seminar, 12:30 to “whenever,” potluck, with the movie Chinatown being shown when it seems most appropriate to the group. Attendance will not be taken for either portion of the day. Taj will try to reserve the Longhouse for our potluck, and if it is unavailable, we will meet in the resource room. Ben volunteered his kitchen on campus for those who need one on the day of the potluck, and Susan volunteered four hot pots as well. Several people requested that we list the ingredients of our dishes on the food we bring for those with food allergies or dietary preferences. Any questions about the potluck should be referred to Taj.
  • Susan, Taj, Kristen and Brian volunteered to drive the vans to Seattle. There is a 30 minute training necessary to receive van keys. Susan volunteered to get the contact information for the trainer at the motor pool. Robert and Tobin have certification to drive the Evergreen vans, so they will be available in case one of the other drivers is somehow incapacitated.
  • Tricia will head the committee to plan where we will visit on our trip to Portland. The other members are Kristin, Brad, Andrew, Natalie and Miles.
  • Student governance will not be run by fascism presently.
  • Student emails will be listed on the webpage Elliot has created, protected by an appropriate password. Anyone who does not want her or his email address listed on the webpage may contact Elliot and it will be omitted.
  • Taj will head the committee to write thank-you notes to the speakers who have visited us. She will get the list of people for next week.
  • There will be a time-keeper for next week who will bring the group’s attention to time overruns during governance meetings. This person will also help assign times and priority to agenda items.
  • Ben will facilitate next week, Adam will keep time, Sarah will scribe, Mick will run the stack and Ying will take notes.
  • All of the agenda items were addressed; attendance remained in the parking lot.
