Arts, Environment and the Child: Walking the Wheel of the Seasons

Allyson Sims

I am a returning student after 20 years. I have a license as a Certified Professional Horticulturist. I have been working in nurseries for the last six years. I hope to put my prior learning experience and my previous two years of college together and get a degree in environmental science.

I am a mother of three. My oldest, Evan is 19, is a sophomore at the University of Colorado at Boulder. My daughter, Mackenzie will be 17 in a few weeks and is a junior at Oly Hi. My youngest son, Taylor is a sophomore at Oly Hi. My husband works for the Senate Ways and Means and is a fabulous woodworker and photographer.

Some of the things I love to do are reading, reading, reading - I love novels, one of my favorite authors is Louise Erdrich, historical fiction and any and everything about plants, gardening or landscaping. I have a 'over-the-top' garden at my big house on a small piece of land in the South Capital neighborhood. Which means, I over-garden because there are just so many plants, bulbs, trees, shrubs, perennials and so on, that I must experience!

I also love to sew, have done so since my grandmother taught me at the age of eight. Was a professional seamestress for over 25 years. I love quilting, knitting, and scrapbooking.
