Arts, Environment and the Child: Walking the Wheel of the Seasons

Heidi Staton

I love music and cats and dancing. I'm from San Juan Island and I really love the nature there. Growing up on that island instilled a great love of nature in me. When I go for a walk in the woods it is like I'm going to church or temple.

I grew up spending alot of time on the water commercial fishing with my family, and one of my great dreams is to have a boat of my own, like a sailboat, and spend time on it with my new family.

I really love organic food, but I was always travelling or fishing in the summer time, so I never got it into my bones to garden, but now that I am older, I really want to learn how to grow my own healthy, nourishing food. Also I am pregnant! And I think that a garden is one of the most important places for a child to grow up around. So at home now, when I have time off, I am trying to learn how to do this thing called "gardening".

I recently moved into a new home that I share with my special sweetie, and another friend, and we are all learning together. Luckily we have a really great big yard that already had a garden in it, only it was exclusively a flower garden, so we already have a good start.

Thanks for reading this! See you in class.
