Arts, Environment and the Child: Walking the Wheel of the Seasons

Joe Downing

Hello everyone!  My name is Joe Downing.  I am an education student returning to academic life after several years in the professional world.  My goal is to receive my Washington State teacher’s certification and Masters in Teaching from The Evergreen State College.  I would like to go on to teach social sciences at the high school level.  I hope someday to move into teaching at the college and university level where I may engage in serious archeological, anthropological and sociological academic research.  Heck, some day I may even dig up something cool and make a history channel documentary.  My original academic background is in history, political science, justice studies and law.  My experiences at this institution thus far have, for the most part, been positive thus far.  In this program I hope to broaden my understanding of environmental affects on the learning process, expand my knowledge of plant biology and the usefulness of various plant species and to meet lots of cool new people and education contacts.  I look forward to working with everyone in the program.
