Question:

Subject: RE: Incomplete evaluiations and NCR evaluations

So are we suppose to write the exit documents even if we are continuing the work/program in the fall?
Luke

Answer

Luke:
Every late September we start one new full year program that ends in June. Every summer program starts in late June and ends in early september.
All this process is handled by Registration, you register there to participate in the program and we send the exit documentation there to end your participation.
The institutions of higher learning have been structured this way in the whole state. We have no control there.

At the end of the full year program, some of our learners decide to continue their project through out the summer and can share their work at the end of summer but they need to exit separately first in June for the one year program and then at the end of the summer for the summer program, if they have registered.

In the fall every one starts the new program, some may construct their project based on their past project (or continue it).
I hope this information helps.

Answer:
Hi Katie:
Learning summaries will happen during weeks 9 and 10. You may want to share your answers to the 4 questions via email by week five.

To conference with us is up to you. We are in the Cedar Room every Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm. If a seminar is started we stay and if not we might go to our office or just go outside on a sunny day. Let us know if your are coming after 1pm. Most answers to most questions are in our web site:

Thanks for writing. Have a nice rest of the summer.

Question:
Hello,
I am registered for your class this summer, and am planning on going ahead with the plan that I originally wrote to you about (that email should be attached to this one), and have a couple of questions. Am I required to meet with you at any time? How should I go about keeping you informed of what I am doing, and what do I do at the end of the quarter, can I just turn things in, or do I have to do some kind of formal presentation? I believe I read that this program is 8 credits for each half of the summer, so do I have to re-register for the second half, or will that happen automatically somehow? Sorry for my ignorance, I have not taken anything in the summer, and have never been in a program like this before.

As for my plan, it looks like I have enough money saved up to be out and about for 3 months. Tomorrow I will be heading to BC for 2-3 weeks, in July I have a bunch of trips planned that would have me in the mountains for 1 to 5 days at a time, and in August I have a two week long climb and a one week long climb planned that, if successful, might be worthy of an article or pictures in a major climbing publication. I also have my first paying photography job lined up for two days in July.

Let me know what I need to do, but know that I might be slow in responding due to the fact that I won't have my own computer in Canada.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan:
Remember attendance is by invitation. Students get involved in their own projects and have the freedom to pursue the information wherever their project takes them, the difference is that for all practical purposes, we as a program do not send you anywhere, it is you who take the opportunity to pursue the information in your own time and by your own decision. What you do is to document your learning and it is a good idea to build a portfolio (any way you want it, we have seen professional digital portfolios created by students). We always welcome the idea of sharing your learning at stages via email or via our program list, then with your permission we can place it in our web site or not. Once a week is more than enough unless you choose to do it more often or can only communicate every other week.

You can register for the full summer quarter at once. This summer we are experimenting with presentations, at the end of the summer you can do only a required learning summary (five minutes at the most with both faculty and in class), and you can also do (if you want to) a non-required normal presentation (an expanded summary of your experiences) in front of the class.

The most important information is always in our web site, in the announcements page:
http://academic.evergreen.edu/curricular/heritagesummerwork/announcements.htm

Thanks for writing.
Have a wonderful summer.
