    Math Modeling Project Books

The following texts may be useful references for projects and presentations. I have placed some of these texts on closed reserve in the library. You may also be able to borrow copies of these texts from other libraries in the region using the Summit catalog

  • Braun, B Ed., Modules in Applied Mathematics Vol 1: Differential Equation Models, Springer Verlag, Call Number QA 37.2.M6 1983 v.1

As the title suggests, this book contains differential equation models -- including topics such as Traffic flow, Biological Cycles, Combat Models and Detection of Art Forgeries. If you use this text consider doing the excercies and problems to get a better feel for the models.

  • Brams, S Ed., Modules in Applied Mathematics Vol 2: Political and Related Models, Springer Verlag, Call Number QA 37.2.M6 1983 v.2

This is similar to the previous text but makes more use of linear algebra than differential equations. The topics include Voting, Decision Making, and Power Politics.

  • Marcus Roberts, H. Ed., Modules in Applied Mathematics Vol 4: Life Science Models Springer Verlag, Call Number QA 37.2.M6 1983 v.4

This is similar to the previous two texts but with the emphasis on Life Science Models such as the spread of disease, population dynamics, age structured models of growth etc.
