[edit] True, but not Obvious

Art is a lie that makes us realize truth.
                   - Pablo Picasso, 1923 [1]

So could it be that math and science give us truths which make us realize lies?

It is important for the common good to foster
individuality: for only the individual can produce
the new ideas which the community needs for its
continuous improvement and requirement -- indeed
to avoid sterility and petrification.
                               -Albert Einstein

Ignore this sentence!

[edit] Holiday!

In observance of Memorial Day, there will be no class on Monday, May 28!

[edit] Writing Center Workshops

The Writing Center is putting on its usual, quarterly, at-the-end-of-the-quarter Self-Evaluation Workshops, where students new and returning can receive information and ask questions about a process that terrifies some and only mildy puzzles others. In addition, any time after these workshops, your students can sign up for a one-on-one session with a tutor at the Center to hone and try-to-perfect (but we all know writing is never REALLY done...) these very important documents for their transcripts.

The workshop times are:

  • 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 Prime Time location in "A" Dorm
  • 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 Prime Time location in "A" Dorm

-Michael Radelich, Learning Resource Specialist

[edit] Exam 2: Monday, May 14

[edit] Exam 1: Wednesday April 18

Don't fret! The exam will be short. For a full list of what you need to know and what you need to be able to do, check the Exam Contents page.

[edit] Email Listserv

Every student should have received a couple emails with [true] in the subject line. Those emails were sent to your @evergreen.edu email addresses as part of an email listserv associated with this program. If you did not receive them, first check your junk mail folder to see if they ended up there. If you can't find any evidence of them, email Allen O. to let him know that you did not receive the messages.

[edit] In-class Assignments List

We're trying to create an outline of the topics, worksheets, and other info covered in class. The outline is linked on the Program Info page as the In-class Assignments List.

[edit] Hound of the Baskervilles

The entire text of The Hound of the Baskervilles for free here in the wiki. It is also available as a text file or a rather weird audio file from Project Gutenberg. For this and other stories, check out the useful links page.
