The individual project is a chance for you to focus on a particular area of study in the program in order to complete substantial work.

Individual projects are not independent contracts within the program.
YOUR PROJECT MUST BE DIRECTLY AND SIGNIFICANTLY RELATED TO PROGRAM THEMES AND CONCEPTS.

Projects are initially determined by us, your faculty, in the sense that we have predetermined 4 categories in which projects must fit. Whichever project category you choose puts you into that “project group” and associates you with a faculty as your seminar leader and author of your final evaluation.

The project categories are:

Critical theory & writing: this group is for projects in literary analysis the
final product of which will be an accomplished essay suitable for
publication.

Theater and Performance: this group is for projects involving
performances, scripts, music, or other performative extensions of language.

Book Arts: this group is for projects in bookbinding / artists’ books or
letterpress printing.

Fiction: this group is for projects in fiction or poetry.

Group Selection: week 1 & 2
Project Proposal Due: week 3
Mid-Term Critique: week 6
Final Presentations: week 10

Your Project Proposal will include:
A project title.

A narrative discussion of your
academic goals

An argument for the relevance of
your project to the program.

A justifications for the number (4)
and kind of credits you are
attempting.

A brief week-to-week timeline.

A description of the kind of support
you’ll need from faculty and any
questions you have.
