Tuesday morning: Conclusion of Modern Art discussion

Tuesday seminar: Seminar on Ceremony and complete the following assignment:

In writing:

1. Describe a real-life situation from your own life that mirrors at least one or two of the elements that Johnson lays out as perpetuating our system of privilege, power, and difference. Be specific in linking theory to real life. Include page numbers and direct quotes. This should be a situation that happened to YOU or involved you personally.

2. Using the ideas you have encountered in the past two weeks, give a hypothetical socially just solution.

Wednesday: ****NEW TIME****

Attend Focus the Nation in the CRC from 9AM to at least Noon. The remainder of the day's activities are also strongly suggested. See the flier that was passed out in class and is also available in the downloadable files for further details.

Thursday morning: Begin the Bill Moyers/Joseph Campbell video series.

Thursday afternoon: Seminar on Ceremony

Upcoming assignment: The first PERFORMATIVE RESPONSE PIECE will be due Thursday Morning of Week 5.

The assignment: (Groups of 5 MAXIMUM) Drawing on all/any of the materials of the program this quarter, create an 8 - 12 minute presentation that does NOT use dialog. Explore connections between the chosen materials and highlight important ideas within those materials. Further, it should include insights into each of the members of the group. These "insights" should focus on something about which the person feels proud but guarded. By guarded, we mean that it is something that the person would not share broadly with others, but would discuss it in a safe environment of reasonably supportive people. The insights presented in these pieces should help us get to know each other better as individuals.
