Remember:

EUPHORIA is not knowing who you are and not caring.

ECSTASY is knowing exactly who you are, and still not caring.

For Thursday - be ready for your performative responses in the morning.

In the afternoon, turn in the following (which is identical to what is on the handout from class, but MAY be different than what was typed below. Please follow these guidelines:

• WORKING TITLES – One for your individual paper AND one for your cluster presentation.
• TOPIC: Provide a brief synopsis of the specific topic and/or problem you are addressing. Also indicate why you think this topic is important.
• QUESTION: State your central question as succinctly as you can. Remember that the question sets the agenda for the whole project, so its wording must in some way imply the range of issues you want to explore.
• SIGNIFICANCE OF THE QUESTION: Speculate on how your question relates to the major themes, issues, and questions raised in our study of how have myth and history helped people in the past create a meaningful relationship between themselves and the world around them.
• THESIS: You should hypothesize the answer to your question. This thesis statement should be stated in one sentence and may change as your research progresses.
• FEASIBILITY STUDY: Identify avenues of research that you will undertake, listing the major resources that tell you this is a viable subject for research.
• THE BIG PICTURE: Briefly describe how your research fits with the other members of your cluster.

ADDITIONALLY - please create a list of five or fewer criteria that you will use to evaluate the members of your "cluster" group at the end of the quarter. This is not due until Tuesday, February 12. Here is the assignment as it was giving in class:

  • As an individual, list out the criteria you would like to use to evaluate your cluster group at the end of the quarter
  • As a group, choose a recorder
  • In round robin fashion, share your criteria and develop one master list.
  • Narrow your items down to 5 criteria or fewer.
  • Turn this list in to the faculty.

Tuesday morning: Reflections on New Orleans.

Tuesday seminar: Seminar on Maps to Ecstasy and turn in your responses to the questions about "Focus the Nation - Global Warming".

Wednesday Morning - 5 Rhythms in CRC 116

Thursday Morning: Performative Presentations in the Recital Hall (To be done in groups of 5 MAXIMUM - Drawing on all/any of the materials of the program this quarter, create an 8 - 12 minute presentation that does NOT use dialog. Explore connections between the chosen materials and highlight important ideas within those materials. Further, it should include insights into each of the members of the group. These "insights" should focus on something about which the person feels proud but guarded. By guarded, we mean that it is something that the person would not share broadly with others, but would discuss it in a safe environment of reasonably supportive people. The insights presented in these pieces should help us get to know each other better as individuals).

Thursday Seminar: Conclude seminar on Maps to Ecstasy. Hand in your Research Topic information (the topic, the group members and their respective responsibilities in presenting the topic, and your initial survey of research materials that are AVAILABLE to your group).
