If Jared Diamond and Bo Graslund were to discuss the evolution of human language they would likely agree on many if not all of the key ideas. Both Graslund and Diamond would agree that chimps have communication system though it is not as advanced as any human language. They would likely agree that the reason for the relatively advanced system of communication used by chimps is because humans share all but 1.6% of our DNA with them. Diamond says that the reason that creoles spoken all over the world are extremely similar is because all people are born with “a genetic blueprint for language” (Diamond,161). Similarly, when children are not exposed to a consistent grammar, they will create their own grammar based on this “blueprint”. Unlike Diamond, Graslund holds that there is not genetic programming specific to language and grammar (Graslund, 108).
