In the next 5-10 years
The next frontier of computing is developing in the research and development of quantum
platforms, and I plan to work on them in the next 5-10 years. We could soon be seeing some
dramatic shifts in the overall platform of human-computer relations. I want to explore the field of
computer translation to explore the possibility of the development of a universal intermediate language
that could be created as a hub for other translation systems, like Esperanto. Most anticipate a continuing
explosion of processing power for computer systems, and the growing trend of acceleration conformity
in the business world and modern culture. It is, and will continue to be infeasible to continue in an
accelerating cycle of obsolescence and renewal in the tech world, simply because the vast taxing of
resources in the manufacture of computer related technology and in its disposal. This will soon make
practical, stable solutions favorable...indispensable. Much less fear is warranted that computers
will be capible of taking over any more than the most mechanistic and deadly of jobs. Replacing a
human worker would require a far more advanced understanding of language than computers
currently possess. That being said, computers will continue get smaller and smaller until a dead
end is reached. Basic molecular motion (that comes as a cost of living in the open system of the
universe) will ensure a scale-barrier where no information could be transmitted by any means
without it being throughly distorted. We enter the quantum realm with computing, which will allow
classically intractable problems to be be solved with 'ease', thus easing up on the demands of the
power of classical computing schemes (theoretically.) Who knows? The cartoonist's job will be
safe for years to come, for that combines culture, visual-art, and perception (of which computer's
know knotting-confusion), and that will surely drive me into the future, where such a medium is
ideal for educating and entertaining an open audience in varying representational levels of logic.
I plan to explore different interpretations of modern quantum theory, David Bohm's is most interesting
to me, and will be following in neurology, possibly in the work of Karl Pribram's (who developed a
'holographic' theory for brain processes.) None of these fields are under threat by computers. I think
my ultimate carrier goal would be to spread as much symmetry as possible, and learn to work in
the field of biofeedback. To develop tools, that, ultimately are there to help people talk to each other
(or to themselves.)
