Assignments

 

Assignments:

1.  Nature Journal:  each student will choose a place for weekly observations and drawing assignments to reinforce technical skills.  Ten pages of drawings in your sketchbook will be required each week.
2.  Major Expressive Assignments.  These include a personal time-line memory project, a costume for the Procession of the Species parade, two mapping assignments, a microscopy assignment and  an ecological art assignment.  In response to these assignments students may make drawings, books or other objects.
3.  Writing assignments include
     a. .  Weekly response papers.  One-page response papers for readings; one page response to lectures and  seminar discussions; one-page reflections on artist’s lectures.
     b.  a short research paper on the biology and mythology related to the species you have selected for the Procession of the Species Parade.
     c.  two visual analysis papers in response to objects viewed in art museums and rare book room of the library.
     d.  a self-evaluation is required for credit in this program.
