My Current Belief

My current belief about my beliefs is that there should be as little conflict or grey area as possible. This is seemingly impossible, but I am also at the point of a revolutionary belief take-over. If you would have asked me not a year from now I would have been completely different.

What I believe I believe in as of right now has a large predisposition towards Honor. I believe in honoring yourself, friends, and family. When elaborated this means to not neglect any of the aforementioned and show nothing but love to them. This belief can be difficult for me at times because I distance myself for reasons I still do not yet understand.

In order to honor oneself, or for oneself to be honorable, by my definition these following traits are fundamental.

Honor:
Honesty,
Integrity,
Proactivity.
Indomitable Spirit,
Self Discipline,

Honesty is the trait I adhere to be the most admirable. It is also the trait I struggle with the most. For a very long time I had a hard time being honest with myself and this made it impossible for me to be honest with others. Dishonesty leads to miscommunication, which I also believe to be the number one influence for conflicts. I can stem every problem I know of back to a simple act of miscommunication. We have communication to express ourselves and our ideas. If we express them falsely, then we are just wasting everyone’s time and potentially causing trouble. Honesty also falls under The Golden Rule: “Treat others how you wish to be treated.” I want people to be honest with me and so I am honest with them. I believe that is why we phrase it specifically “being honest with someone.” Without both parties contributing, it is meaningless.

Integrity is the act of standing behind what you believe is right even when it is terrifying to do so. This should not be confused with being stubborn. Although similar to integrity, being stubborn is sticking to your method despite significant amounts of evidence that you are wrong. Integrity means to be solid in your beliefs and follow them without hypocrisy. It is not always easy, but it is the right thing to do. Integrity requires a large amount of courage.

Proactivity is actively taking responsibility for your life and moving forward. No one is responsible for you but yourself and no one can improve you for you. You must believe that you can always become better and the only way to that path is through yourself. Focus on what you love and pursue it.

Indomitable Spirit is that trait that cannot be conquered or overcome. It is standing resolute and never giving up. If there are countless obstacles and handicaps then they will only make success that much more worthwhile.

Self Discipline is the act of regulating your behavior to do what you believe you should do. Even if you would rather be doing something else with your time, if the goal is necessary then it has priority. Without outside instruction or coercion you make yourself do what needs doing without complaint. This trait is especially important for me because I need it in order to maintain any of my other beliefs.

Although I may not always demonstrate these beliefs to the extent I’ve defined them, it is because they are very strict and also new to me. That is not meant to be an excuse however. Change takes time and as long as I actively work on and be aware of my behavior then there is infinite possibility for change.
