Information for the Introduction to Linguistics cohort (students currently studying Intro)

If you are a Language Matters student who is currently studying Introduction to Linguistics, this information is for you.

This cohort will participate in all Language Matters classes except Thursday afternoon Analysis.  Instead, you will study Introduction to Linguistics with Rachel on Wednesdays, 11-1:30 in C3107.  You will have weekly homework assignments from your textbook, An Introduction to Language by Fromkin, Rodman & Hyams.  Our schedule for covering the material is given below.  You should read the relevant chapter(s) in the textbook before coming to our class session so you can get the most out of class.  Homework on the previous week's material is due in class starting Week 2.

The primary learning objective for this portion of the program is to learn about language structure, including all the levels of analysis represented by the topics below.  Furthermore, students will gain communicative and collaborative skills through working together in a small cohort.  Evaluation will be based on attendance and participation in class, and performance on homeworks and on the final exam.
