This is the homepage for the Real Analysis segment of Math Systems.

Here is the text we’ll use for Real Analysis; it’s a course guide written by W. Ted Mahavier and W. S. Mahavier and published in the Journal of Inquiry-Based Learning in Mathematics (No. 12, Mar. 2009).  We got through chapters 1 and 2 in the Fall Quarter; we’ll start with chapter 3 in the Winter and go in order, hopefully getting through chapters 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

You’re free to read the course guide, of course, and to start working on the problems in it.  However, it is important that you not consult any other texts for help.  The approach we’re taking in this subject only works insofar as you develop the subject independently.

You’ll need to print out the course guide and bring it with you to class.

When you print out the course guide, please make the following correction: Definitions 10 and 11 should be replaced with “Definition 10: The statement that f is a function means that f is a collection of points in the plane, no two of which have the same first co-ordinate.”
