Syllabus
Week 1: Stephen Beck will be Faculty of the Week (in C Pailthorp’s absence). He will teach and lead discussions on Free Will and related issues.
Reading will include “Section VIII: Of Liberty and Necessity” from An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David Hume. All students are expected to have read these pages during break. Other readings will be assigned soon.
Weeks 2-3: Our work will begin with selections from Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations and On Certainty.
Weeks 4-5: We will continue with Sellars’ Empiricism and the Philosophy of Mind.
