Week 1

Monday, Sept. 29 Introductions. Workshop on our experiences with war. Reconstructing what we know about World War I. Short lectures: Sarah on social history. Susan on cultural history. Discussion of "the history wars."

Assignment: Read Wilson's speech "The Fourteen Points" and Lenin's "Imperialism" -- especially chapters V, VI, and VII. Write a two paragraph response which explains what you think each author's thesis is.

Wednesday, Oct. 1 Timeline workshop. Seminar on Wilson and Lenin documents.

Assignment: Begin reading Over Here, Chapters 1-3
