The Week9Schedule has information about the candidacy paper presentations (i.e., the final schedule), and a sample titlepage (also here) that you can use for your paper

Week 9:  due to canceled class week 8, please look at Week 9 schedule for revised schedule!

Week 7:  TUESDAY, FEB 15: Because of the possibility of the projection screen breakdown in LH2, ESS will meet tonight in Sem 2 A1105 for lecture (6-7:30).

If you have photos from the field trip to the Hatchery, or from the CONFOR trip, please upload them to the orca fileshare – and email judy where they are;  she will put some on the ESS site!

IMPORTANT:  The file size limit for the draft paper upload on the Moodle has been increased to 50 mb.  if, anyone still has problems with file size (50mb is the max size we can set for the moodle), there are two possibilities:

  1. Leave a note on the moodle that you have placed the paper in the program fileshare on orca (and where it is), and/or
  2. Create a pdf of the document (download primopdf, for example: it will show up as a “print device” option when you print, and create a pdf for you).   A pdf is often smaller than a Word file.   The disadvantage of this alternative is that the reviewer cannot use track changes in Word to edit your paper, so it is an option really only for people who will read the paper.

Guidelines for Peer Review have been posted in the Week 7 Schedule. In this document you will also see Topic Area Groupings (for the purposes of peer review).  You will partner with someone in your Topic Area, and review each other’s paper.

Week 6: Special assignment relating to CONFOR and Field Trip is now posted.

Week 5: Field Trip information has been posted.

Remember that midterm exam is due TUESDAY (not Thursday).  A revised version of the exam document with the due date has replaced the older version.

TUESDAY CLASS will be in the CAL (Lab II – actually between Lab I and Lab II).  There will be a short presentation about DoT internships, followed by an energy/excel workshop.

Week 4:  Remember (as per announcement in class Week 2) that Wilkinson’s Messages from Frank’s Landing is out of print and that you will have to procure a copy from somewhere other than the bookstore, e.g., 2nd year MES student or Amazon.

Week 3:  Gerardo’s Tuesday slides are now posted.  Readings for Tuesday seminar were posted Thursday, during evening break, Week 2, on the Week 3 Schedule .

Week 2:  Judy’s Thursday Lecture Slides are now also posted (on Week 2 Schedule).

Judy’s Tuesday lecture notes, as well as times/locations of Thursday Events are now posted on Week 2 Schedule. Panarchy References have also been posted.   See Week 1 Schedule.

Tuesday, Jan. 11  – class was dismissed at 7:30.  we defer seminar (8-9:50) until Thursday night, and seminar on the entire Meadows book then.  Facilitators for each seminar group might want to coordinate.

Week 2 Schedule is now posted.  Also, see Seminar Roles (under docs) — an explanation of what is expected of students as they take on each seminar role.

Week 1 Schedule is now ready (see it for Thursday seminar writing assignment).   A Candidacy Paper Forum (and place for you to share Week 1 Writing) is also now available on the ESS Moodle.

See below (Prior Winter Quarter Posts) for preliminary information in draft form;  this info has now been incorporated into the body of the site.
