Immediately, as one descends the stairs of Cafe Wha? away from the neon lights and busy streets of an average evening in New York they are caught amidst the rock and roll heritage that is laden into the history of the cafe. Plastered on the brick walls of the the dimly lit stairway leading down to the restaurant are prints of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley.

Cafe Wha? hosts music every night of the week, attempting to keep the musical talent lively and present in Greenwich Village as well as be a hub for musicians in the city. While the cafe has been around since the 1950s it gained this reputation in the 60s, acting as a stomping ground for musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springstein as well as comedians such as Bill Cosby and Richard Prior.

The bar is dimly lit and anyone entering has their attention drawn immediately to the stage where the music and amped and enthusiasm is spread enticingly through the performers. While the music may be slightly mediocre at times, there is an essence it captures. As one sits back enjoying a light meal or snack and sipping a drink, the nostalgic reminiscence of a different artistic era was captured.
