From: Shariff, Zahid Sent: Monday, March 22, 2004 3:50 PM To: All Staff & Faculty DL Subject: Jacinta It has taken me a while to get over denial and disbelief before I could think of stating my feelings. Jacinta was a vital presence whose energy and charm surrounded you immediately. I don’t recall ever being formally introduced to her at any stage, but she knew that we were all in some sense here together and needed to be aware of that fact in some significant way. On numerous occasions she joined me for lunch at the Farmer’s Market, and offered advice about health and alternative medicine. During our last conversation only about a week ago she told me about the virtues of buying water from the Food Coop, but only from the Eastside store, she emphasized. When she offered to send me some material to read about it, I protested: no more reading material, please. We laughed. Before leaving, we hugged and she said something about the need to take care of ourselves. There aren’t many sources of affection and concern and warmth. Our lives are now diminished. Zahid
