Ceramics: Introduction to Sculpture

Description
This is an introductory studio course in forming processes in ceramics, starting with handbuilding techniques and progressing to wheel-throwing techniques for altered cylindrical forms.  Students will learn the handbuilding techniques of pinching, coil-building, slab-building, extruding, and an introduction to basic wheel-throwing.  Students will be introduced to the use of slips and low-fire glazes.  Emphasis will be on learning construction techniques, integrating the principles of three-dimensional design, and developing students’ individual sculptural concepts.
