Prerequisites

Entry in fall quarter requires proficiency equivalent to successful completion of college algebra.  (High school algebra 2 or integrated math 3 should be equivalent.)  Entry into the winter quarter requires proficiency equivalent to the successful completion of Precalculus I.  Contact the instructor for an assessment of proficiency.

Description

This two-quarter sequence of courses will prepare students for calculus and more advanced mathematics.  It is a good course for students who have recently had a college-level math class or at least three years of high school math.  Students should enter the class with a good knowledge of supporting algebra.  Fall quarter will include an in-depth study of linear, quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions.  Winter will include an in-depth study of trigonometric and rational functions in addition to parametric equations, polar coordinates, and operations on functions.  Collaborative learning, data analysis and approaching problems from multiple perspectives (algebraically, numerically, graphically, and verbally) will be emphasized.
