Entry into the winter and spring quarters requires proficiency equivalent to the successful completion of American Sign Language I (for winter) or American Sign Language II (for spring). Contact the instructor for an assessment of proficiency.

In this year-long sequence of courses, students will learn finger-spelling, cardinal numbers, vocabulary, conversation sign, and ASL grammar. Introduction to deaf culture includes a reader and invitations to participate in Deaf Coffee and to attend the Deaf Club. As the year progresses, students will focus on broadening their vocabularies and conversation skills and using appropriate and accurate ASL grammar with emphasis on the non-manual aspect of communication. There will
also be continued study of deaf culture and invitations to deaf events in this area.
