If you have ever thought about starting a business after graduation, wanted to understand better how organizations work, or have parents who are constantly encouraging you to "get a business degree" then this class is for you. Students will review the major functional areas that comprise and influence organizations such as:
- the role of marketing and its effects on customers, employees, company "presence," community relations;
- how leadership and management differ—styles involved and effects on the organization;
- how operational processes, finance, manufacturing, R&D, etc. integrate to create value; and
- core principles and steps a person would need to know/complete in order to begin their own business.
Students will complete a community based learning project comprised of related activities to demonstrate and apply their knowledge to the content gleaned in class. Activities will range from interviewing community business people or resources, direct observation of specific business activities or models, researching and reflection, or using a variety of media to explore the business concepts being taught in class.
