Description

In this 6-credit course, students will gain an introduction to medicinal plants with a focus on plant identification and morphology (botany), medicinal concepts and practices (botanical medicine), botanical art, and engaging with plants in the Longhouse Ethnobotanical Garden. Students will also explore selected topics such as cultural approaches to herbalism, experience/research, medicine making, body systems, seasonal health, and nature journaling. Activities include lectures, workshops, reading, seminar, and projects. This course is appropriate for students with interests in botany, environmental studies, health, cultural studies, and botanical medicine.
