Why and how should we care for our planet? Do we have reason to care only about other human beings, or should we care about non-human animals as well? How about other organisms -- or even whole ecosystems? And what about people and other living things in the future? How does knowledge of living things help us to care about them?

In this program, we will take as our focus questions about our reasons to protect and preserve life, human and non-human, now and in the future. We will study biology, specifically evolution and ecology, to understand the variety and complexity of life, and we will study philosophical ethics, specifically environmental ethics, to understand our ethical place in the world. This program will help students to widen their understanding of the world and their place within it.
