Individual Study: Outdoor Leadership, Ecology, Agriculture

REVISED

Spring 2016 quarter

Taught by

ecology, biology, mycology

Individual study offers students the opportunity to study subjects or do projects not typically available through the regular curriculum.  It also offers opportunities to learn about their own learning process: the opportunity to develop self-direction, to learn how to manage a personal project, and/or to learn how to learn technical material outside of the classroom. Students interested in a self-directed project, research, or course of study in outdoor leadership, ecology or agriculture are invited to contact the faculty. Groups of students interested in studying a subject together are strongly encouraged as well.

Interested students should answer the following questions and email the answers to the faculty, along with the names of any Evergreen faculty that you’ve worked with in the past. 1. What do you want to learn? 2. How do you plan to learn it? This is where you put down what you will do. This is often where people begin thinking individual learning, but all activities need to be framed into a larger learning objective. 3. How will you know that you’ve learned it? 4. How will you demonstrate to others that you’ve learned it? 5. What difference will this learning make for you and others?
