Organizational Conflict Management

Summer 2016 quarter (Session I)

Taught by

political science, public administration

This course is based on the premise that conflict is both inevitable and beneficial in successful organizations.  We will provide a foundation for our work through a brief overview of conflict resolution theory and practice.  We will examine interpersonal conflict, the role of organizational culture in conflict resolution and the impact of diversity on conflict.  Skill development in conflict management and resolution will be based on a collaborative approach involving team work, case analysis, role plays and theatric expression. Students will develop an understanding of the role of organizational culture and diversity in conflict management, learn to identify and analyze conflict situations, and understand their personal role(s) in generating and/or resolving conflict.
