 NEWTONDISCOVERING THE UNIVERSE (KAUFMANN)

Knowing that velocity is equal to distance all over time. V = d/t.

Assuming that the moon orbits around the Earth in a circle. Then to know the circumference of a circle is 2 pie R/ time

We know that the radius of  is Moon is 1738000 meters

Pie is equal to 3.14

Time is equal to 29.5 days = 709 hours = 2,552,400 sec.

Velocity = 2 pie r/ time  = 2 x 3.14 x 1738000 meters / 2,552,400 sec.

Velocity  = 10920176 meters / 2,552,400 sec.               V = 4.27 meters per second

KEPLER'S SECOND LAW DISCOVERING THE UNIVERSE (KAUFMANN)

The orbit of the Moon

    Kepler's Second law states that an orbiting body sweeps out equal areas in its orbit in equal time. This means that when the moon is closest to the planet it moves faster and sweeps out a bigger segment than when it is further away from the planet and moving slower. The shape of an orbit is an ellipse. An ellipse is a conic, like a circle, and has several properties. It has two foci - with the planet the moon is orbiting being at one of them - there is nothing at the other axis, the shorter axis is called the minor axis. The degree to which the ellipse departs from being circular is measured by the eccentricity. Perigee and Apogee occur on the major axis.
