CELESTIAL NAVIGATION
"Children
growing up in the final decades of the 20th century represent the first
generation in the history of civilization to live in a world where
the stars are almost certain to be the last thing noticed at night instead
of the first." Terence
Dickinson
Through many centuries
the stars have been a navigational guide for several cultures. The
older methods of celestial navigation are becoming obsolete due to more
recent technological advances in navigational devices. This project was
divided into four components: traditional
navigation, navigation without
the use of devices, the development
of celestial navigation devices, and the practice of modern
celestial navigation.
