Project #2 - Mythic Journeys
Goals:
- Learn about Mythic Journeys.
- Improve consensus building and collaboration skills by developing a
project as a team.
- Learn new Shadow Puppetry skills and practice those already acquired.
¥ Acquire familiarity with the artistic process used in Project #1.
- Gain experience performing with shadow puppets.
- Develop negotiation, organizational and time management skills.
- Develop communication skills by discussing projects and presenting
ideas.
- Experience art as a way of knowing and develop understanding of personal
and group artistic processes.
Objective:
Develop a short performance piece based on research around one or several
of the following topics: - Mythic Journeys - Fairy tales - Myths about
Shadows and Shadowlands.
Suggested Pathway:
- 1 -Research: Read to find area of interest, story or
idea. Take notes. Research the country, characters, customs, historical
period, geographic information, social customs, anthropological information,
similar stories, dramaturgical background.
- 2 -Emotional Response: Create a expressive work, using
any medium. Keep. Base it on your "gut feeling" or emotional
response to the spark (story or idea selected). Do not analyze or try to
explain until you are done. Have fun with it.
- 3 -Research: Collect Imagery and visual stimuli about
the topics chosen. Keep in a folder. Include music, photos, books with
"pictures," paintings, magazines, video, films, academic journals,
etc.
- 4 -Team Selection: After looking at everybody's work
in class, we will create compatible teams.
For Wednesday October 22
- 5- Start Storyboards. Create a series of preliminary
storyboards based on your idea. Start to make three storyboards. Do one
each day. Allow yourself to dream and use your imagination. Use each series
to advance and explore your ideas. Do not bog yourself down with thinking
about technicalities. Try to find the most useful way to sketch. Switch
to different materials if necessary. Keep all attempts and "mistakes."
For Thursday October 23
- 6- Start Character Sketches: Create large preliminary
sketches to develop the characters, settings and other aspects of the performance
you have in mind. Make three series for each. One each day. Use each series
to advance and explore your ideas. Discuss al work as a team. Do not bog
yourself down with thinking about technicalities. Try to find the most
useful way to sketch. Change material or hands if necessary.
- 7¥ Start Script and Sound Design: Start a preliminary
script and start on music and sound ideas. Work on several drafts for the
script. Discuss al work as a team. Do not bog yourself down with thinking
about technicalities. Make a set of tapes and a script to bring to class.

Week 4 - Preliminary work - Note: Wednesday Morning Video Editing Proficiency.
Week 5 - Continue Project as homework.-Wayang Workshops - Get Materials.
Week 6 - Work In Progress (TUE) and Presentations (THU)
