Purpose of System:

Several people from LFF travel a lot, without their laptops or without the ability to dial in with their laptops. But, since they often visit libraries, they usually have access to the web. I really want people here to be able to access their email from the web when they're away. I'm currently using rocketmail (http://www.rocketmail.com) which is a free service (free, but you have to tolerate those annoying, flashing advertisements...) that gives you a email account accessible from the web. It also lets you check your pop mail and have it sent to this web based address. This is very convenient, but I don't want all the ads, and I want the ability to tweak to better fit LFF (for example, I want the from address to be the same as my lff address, rather than a hotmail.com address). This project could be very flexible and has a lot of room for growth (someday I want to have imap functionality--the ability to keep all messages stored on the server, rather than downloaded to each person's computer, so they can have access to their folders when they are on other computers). Also, although it's not a mission critical application, if it's successful it would be a really useful device.
