Forest Stone  playing the Sitar
Although the Sitar appears to be similar to a guitar, it has many differences. For instance, the sound is much
higher pitched, there are several tuning pins along the neck (as you can see in the picture) and the frets are
raised bars rather than flatter embedded bars as in the guitar. Another difference is that rather than holding
the strings down  in between the frets you hold them down directly on the bar. Forest was playing the Sitar
for our Kathak classes, and it is also used for Orissi dance music.
This is only information that I observed, I will be looking for more information on the sitar. I'm sorry
it's not available now.
Here's a couple more fun facts about the Sitar. There are two layers of string. The top has seven strings and
the bottom has twelve. This may vary depending on the size of the Sitar, but this is what I observed.
