Celebrex: how it works:

Celebrex is a non-steroidal, anti- inflammatory drug that exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities in animal models.

The mechanism is believed to be due to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, primarily via inhibition of Cyclooxygenase 2(COX-2).

Celebrex blocks or inhibits the action of the COX -2 enzyme, which plays a key role in pain and inflammation.Celebrex is one of the first COX - 2 specific inhibitions approved for treating pain inflammation and stiffness that accompanies arthritis both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Celebrex is prescribed for a broad range of painful conditions including Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Pain and Primary Dysmenorrhea in adults.

The active ingredient is CYCLOOXYGENASE (COX), an enzyme that produces prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are a class of naturally occurring chemicals that are made in many tissues of the body. They are some of the chemicals that contribute to proper functioning of the stomach and intestinal lining, platelets and kidneys.
