WHEN IS AUDIENCE?
Mark Enslin

When

     a person attending a created event
     not only hears and sees what there is to hear and see,
     but also
          distinguishes between intended relation and accident,
          moves along with a projected emphasis,
          punctuates,
          goes into a huddle with desires, opinions, and peeves,
          teases and jostles early verdicts,
          decides to look for something, anything, but something
               chosen, and considers where it ought to be,
               where it last was, where it couldn't possibly
               be, in order to find something not yet sought;

when a person takes notes on a few sentences to sail later,
          and acts,

then is audience.
