• The medical history  of a young girl who is greatly underweight shows she had 3/4 of her small intestine removed after she was injured in a MVA.  Explain how this accounts for her underweight condition, even though her medical chart shows she eats well.

• James has a cold and a poor appetite.  He says he can't distinguish the flavors of the foods he eats - they all taste the same.  How can you explain this?
