EALR'S
(Make the connections clear and specific): |
GOALS: The student will gain experience with linear measurements (meters)
and recognize that measurements can be approximate, or more precise.
|
OBJECTIVES: |
PROCEDURES: (Label each step in the process: Activating Prior Knowledge, Disequilibration, Elaboration, Crystallization)
When I count to three everyone close their eyes and by holding your
hands apart in front of you show me how far one meter is. One, Two,
Three.
Over here, I have measured off 10 meters. You are to pace the distance off to see how many paces equal 10 meters. Everyone needs to repeat the pace-off three times to be sure you are accurate. Get together with a partner to help you keep track. You can use an average of the number of paces or the most often occurring number. Record your paces on the chart. Next, with your partner,
find the distances between two places on campus. You need to go in
a straight line. (This is a linear measurement.) Record your paces
on the chart and calculate the approximate distance between places.
Report back here in 15 minutes.
(After all the students get back.) Tell me some of the distances you measured. How many paces did you walk? How many meters is that? (Record on board several measurements) Does anyone have any comments
on the process? |
POST-ASSESSMENT Everyone turn in their
record sheet to me when you go. |
