                                    QUESTIONING p. 167

OBJECTIVE OF THE STRATEGY: To communicate ideas to others

STUDENT PREPARATION:   Prepare for reading if in a whole class situation.

TEACHER PREPARATION:   Assign parts if whole class. Model behavior and listen.

PROCEDURES:

  1. Assign text selection to be read. Provide pre reading preparation as needed.
  2. Form small groups. Each group member selects a segment of the text to read. Several minutes are given for rehearsal and the formulation of questions for discussion.
  3. Begin radio reading. As the reader reads, listeners have their books closed.
  4. Initiate discussion of what was read. The radio reader asks each member of the group a question or 2 to prompt discussion and if a question is unclear, the listener can ask for a restatement.
  5. Each listener takes a turn as a reader.
