OBJECTIVE OF THE STRATEGY: To encourage
students to ask their own questions about the content material under study.

PROCEDURES FOR WHOLE GROUP:

Both teacher and students silently read a
passage.

Teacher closes the book and is questioned
about the passage by the students.

Next there is an exchange of roles. The teacher
now asks the students about the material.

The next segment is read. Repeat steps 2 and
3.

At a suitable point in the text, when students
have processed enough information to make predictions about the remainder
of the assignment, the exchange of questions stops. Ask: "What do you think
the rest of the assignment is about?" "Why do you think so?" Speculations
are encouraged.

Students read the rest of the assignment silently.

Teacher facilitates follow-up discussion of
material.
